Below is a comprehensive list of the services we are proud to offer here at Big Heart Family Dentistry.
When one or more teeth are missing, the neighboring teeth can be altered in order to act as supports to hold up permanent replacements. Much like a bridge cars and trucks drive on suspending a road from one side to the other, a dental bridge is a strong option that is only as good as it supports. It is permanent restoration that is not removable. Since the suspended replacement teeth are connected to their supports, it is impossible to pass floss between them. Special floss and cleaning instruments/techniques must be used to ensure food debris and plaque are removed daily from under the suspended teeth. If cared for properly, dental bridges can last for decades.
Despite our best efforts, occasionally some teeth must be removed entirely from the mouth. From simple baby teeth to complicated surgical extractions of wisdom teeth, you can be sure your experience will be comfortable and painless.
When many teeth are missing, it can be very difficult to chew, talk or even appear normal. A full denture replaces all of the teeth in the arch. A partial denture replaces only those teeth that are already missing and uses the remaining teeth are anchors to clasp onto for retention and support. There are many types of full/partial dentures made from many different types of materials. We help you find the right kind of denture and denture material to meet your goals and comfort level. It is important to remember that dentures are removable appliances and must be taken out, cleaned and soaked at night while you sleep.
An implant is an impressive sterile titanium screw that is surgically placed in the bone where a tooth once was. Don’t stress, placing an implant is one of the most painless procedures dentists perform. Over the course of several months, an implant integrates with the surrounding bone, recreating a firm root base for a permanent tooth crown to attach.
A deep cavity can cause tooth pulp (nerve) death. Instead of extracting the tooth, it can be saved by cleaning out the diseased portion, including the nerve, and restoring the rest. The tooth will lose its ability to feel pain, hot and cold. Since the core of the tooth is removed to access the nerve, it is often necessary to place a dental crown on it to prevent fracturing the tooth completely.
When a tooth has been weakened due to cracking, decay or large/old fillings, the tooth is fitted with a durable suit of armor. This covering generally replaces the entire visible surface of the tooth and prevents it from breaking down further. Before a crown can be made, a dental drill is used to make the tooth a little shorter and narrower. An impression is taken of the tooth and sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication of a custom crown. While you wait for the final crown, which typically takes 2-3 weeks, a temporary crown is cemented on for your comfort and function. Crowns are beautiful and strong. We take our time to ensure the best material and color is selected so you look and feel your best.
After years of eating and drinking foods and liquids that stain our teeth, teeth whitening is a great way to return back to our natural shade. Toothpaste and other over the counter options can only remove superficial staining. Our office offers several options for powerful yet safe whitening agents.
Wouldn’t it be nice to save money and discomfort? We think so. Our clinic focuses on prevention and fixing problems while they are still small and inexpensive. It is recommended that you visit the hygienist every 6 months to remove the inevitable buildup of hard tartar and plaque that flossing and brushing can only stave off for so long. Help us help you. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Does the mere thought of going to the dentist fill you with dread? Have you had bad experiences in the past? It breaks our heart that some people put up with severe pain hoping to avoid the dentist, often making matters worse. We offer painless, panic free options for anesthetic and sedation that leave you comfortable during your procedure. Our goal is to change what dental care means to you.
Bacteria in the mouth are with us from the moment we are born to the day we die. We cannot avoid them. When their numbers reach a certain threshold, the acid they produce as a by-product of their metabolism becomes significant enough that parts of our teeth dissolve away, creating holes! The tooth can be repaired as long as the diseased parts are removed and replaced with a strong material. There are many types of fillings available. We will talk about which type and color prior to starting so you are sure your teeth will look great and do their job.
